The Palestinian Tahrir Square

Real life events can often illustrate a point far better and faster than logical discussion. Defenders of the Palestinian cause spin the “struggle” as a noble fight for freedom in the tradition of the French underground and the South African or American rights struggles. It is not so.

Israel Peace Week

It’s time to do something about anti-Israel propaganda on campus.

Israel Peace Week highlights the positive aspects of Israeli society.

The revolutions and attempted revolutions sweeping the Arab Middle East underline the fact that Israel is a beacon of democracy, progress and hope and an oasis of human rights in this region. That fact cannot be hidden by well-financed PR campaigns and empty racist slogans.

If there is no Israel Peace Week at your university, get busy organizing it!! If there is going to be one, be sure and participate.

At UC Berkeley, for example Israel Peace and Diversity Week began this week (March 6). The schedule is here http://proisraelbaybloggers.blogspot.com/2011/02/israel-peace-and-diversity-week-at-uc.html

For more information about upcoming events or about setting up Israel Peace Week contact or

Website: www.israelpeaceweek.org

Yet more information:

http://israelcampusbeat.org/home/news/11-03-01/Students_Use_Network_to_Highlight_Drive_for_Peace.aspx

Israel Peace Week should replace ignorance with facts. It should educate students about Middle East realities, and get them concerned about real issues of democracy, peace and human rights in the Middle East.

Be PROACTIVE Don’t wait until there is an anti-Israel event at your campus.

HRW Condemns Hamas War Criminals

You read that right. It doesn’t seem like a hoax either. Human Rights Watch actually condemned the indiscriminate murder of Jewish Israeli civilians by Hamas terrorists. The condemnation, unbelievably, was not “even-handed.” It did not condemn us rotten evil imperialist Zionist settler war criminals for defending ourselves against the Hamas.

Understanding the Arab Revolts: Where is the Middle East?

The Arab revolts of 2011 have a message that is not just for “progressives” (see The message of the Arab revolts for progressives ). It is this: The Middle East is much more than Israel and the Palestinians.

U.S. veto of U.N. Resolution on settlements – not so simple.

Israeli leaders seem to think the U.S veto of the Security Council Resolution declaring Israeli “settlements” (including those in East Jerusalem) illegal is a cause for celebration. Actually, there are many lessons to be learn by the Israelis, the Palestinians and the Americans from this little episode, but nobody seems to be learning them.

Birthright and value-based double-talk

The Birthright (Taglit) program is one of the shining successes of the Zionist movement. Birthright offers free trips to Israel for Jewish young people in the hope that seeing is believing. Though it has probably not been able to fully exploit its potential, there is no doubt that Birthright brings Jewish young people closer to Israel and to their Jewish heritage and closer to an understanding of the achievements and challenges facing Israel.

The curious “concessions” of the Palestinian papers

Al-Jazeera has unleashed a pile of supposed diplomatic records of the Israeli and Palestinian negotiations, mostly in 2008, known as the Palestine Papers, and The Guardian has followed suit. Thus far,  the documents seem to show that Palestinian Authority negotiators made numerous unreciprocated “concessions” to Israel, especially regarding Jerusalem.

Psychopathology of anti-Israel discourse

Some belief systems, as Jared Loughner demonstrated, are beyond politics and logic. Everyone seems to agree that Loughner, who went on a shooting rampage in Tucson, Arizona, wounding Representative Gabrielle Giffords and killing bystanders, was an unfortunate schizophrenic suffering from incoherent ideation. But what if there was a whole Loughnerism movement? What if they taught this sort of thinking at universities, and it was believed by respectable people?

What UCLA students think: Hamas is a spread on pita bread

Remember all those statistics showing that Americans do not know anything about the Middle East and Israel? (See What Americans don’t know: Ahmadinewho??).

What to do about those anti-Israel Seattle bus ads

An anti-Israel “organization,” the “Seattle Mideast Awareness Campaign,” is about to run some advertisements about Israeli “war crimes” on public transportation in Seattle, Washington beginning December 27. It seems anti-Israel activist Cindy Corrie has already organized a mass mailing and phone-in favoring the ads, and other terror groupies may be doing the same thing. If you live in the USA, your help is urgently  needed to counter these campaigns.
